Sly Sleepy Smile

Covers rustling
and I’m anticipating a
gentle caress and sigh
and a
sly sleepy smile,
but none ever come.
You’re more distant
than usual
and I’m hardened
to the softness of
this moment…
Appreciation evacuates,
sheer greed
takes its place,
salivating for
final touches and
sly sleepy smiles.
Cringing in my
alert- and awakeness
I wonder why
your sleeping form
ceases to recognize
the fingerprints of
my body against yours —
none other like it,
none could match this,
none would ever try.
Falling into
dreamy haze
I flash you a
sly sleepy smile and
drift back to a place
entirely our own.
